The final production series for the DB6 being the “Mk II” was the swan song of the DB
variants produced by Newport Pagnell. The specification shared many parts with the DBS
such as the wheels and tyres, hubs and seats, the wider tyres are accommodated by slight flares over the wheel arches. The DB6 differed from its predecessors in having a longer
wheelbase which, at 8' 5¾", was 3¾" longer than that of the DB5. This meant more room for rear passengers, which made the DB6 more of a family man's car and helped it sell better than the earlier models in the series. The bodywork was distinctive, with a slightly higher roofline than the DB4 & DB5 and featured an aerodynamically efficient abbreviated 'Kamm' tail.
Our correct matching numbers DB6 Mk2 is documented by Aston Martin Lagonda Limited as having been supplied by H.R. Owen Ltd. of South Kensington, London to George Nicholls Associates Ltd. Ironically, this DB6 now sits in our showroom a stone’s throw away from both! Although specified with the rare option of Air Condition, this was removed during the restoration, but SCL are happy to supply a modern and hidden unit for greater efficiency and one that is aesthetically pleasing.
Finished in July of 2011, the chassis and body were restored by Bodylines and painted by Spraytech. The quality of the work is evident throughout. Aston London rebuilt the engine to 4.2 litre specification using parts supplied by Aston Engineering. This included a fully counter- weighted Mk4 crankshaft with Cosworth pistons and competition con-rods. Marksdanes re-assembled the car and returned it to Sigma Engineering for final tuning on the rolling road.
In the hands of the current owner, the car has covered a mere 5000 miles and presents beautifully. Included in the history file is a documented list of owners from new, restoration invoices, AML build sheet and a heritage certificate.
Available for viewing at our London showroom in South Kensington.
